Personally, I think it would be pretty cool to connect with animals. Nature, in its very essence, is a cool thing to establish a bond with. I feel as if people will really enjoy, or really dislike this book and this series in general. The author has a bit of a problem with repetition, as events seem to happen in ways that spin the readers around in circles. If you like reading stories without distinct paths and clarity, I would recommend this series, but selectively. The characters are tolerable, the plot a mess, but overall an enjoyable spin.

I tried to read this two times before. Both times I couldn't make it past the first page. It's been four years since then and I've finally managed to finish the book. It's not as bad as I remember it being, probably because it's been a while since I've read the "Darkest Powers" series and knowing from that who the bad guys were made me think that all of the characters in this series were idiots.
With all my bias out of the way I actually found this book enjoyable. The characters didn't bug me as much because they were more knowledgeable, though they did make some pretty bad choices. The twists weren't all predictable, though most of them were. Wanting to know what happened next (and the promise that "Darkest Powers" characters are in the next book) was what kept me reading.
Like the first book, "The Calling" doesn't really have a proper ending, just a lead into the next book. I am fine with this, but only because I could get to a library and start reading "The Rising".

I didn't like the first book that much but this book was amazing because there is all that drama with them being kidnapped and stuff.

Looking forward to reading this one + the next one (The Rising).... And, just for those who keep calling this series a 'Trilogy' or 'They can't wait til the third book comes out (The Rising) This Series has a total of SIX books!!
1. The Summoning
2. The Awakening
3. The Reckoning
4. The Gathering
5. The Calling
6. The Rising.....

The only thing i'm not overly crazy about is this series is more catered for the tweens. Her Women Of The Otherworld Series is more for Adults... And all AMAZING!!

The start is REALLY slow........after it kind of gets better. The book is a little to predictable too.
It's like you KNOW so and so will make it.. blah..blah...blah
NOT a good book!

“It's a road!"
I patted his back." It's a lovely road. Now which way do we go?"
Corey looked one way, the brown ribbon extending into emptiness. He looked the other way, saw the same thing and his shoulders slumped.
"Damn.”
