I took this one out as Emily Blunt is in it. it is cute, and doesn't have a hidden dark side that so many comedies have. it's not didactic, but is full of helpful tips about how to have a relationship, ie how to communicate issues, when to over look quirks and flaws but not put up with sh&@t.

An ok rom-com. Nothing new or special.

This was a lot cuter than I was expecting, and it had some laugh out loud moments

I picked up this movie because I really like Emily Blunt; but, unfortunately, it was torturous to watch. It is very, very crude for the sake of comedy. Not my taste. I'm tired of watching characters fall into bed with partner after partner. There is no true love there. Why did I compel myself to watch the whole two hours. Perhaps, I hoped it would redeem itself somehow.

If you are meant to be with someone, you will end up with them, even if there is a mess in the middle of your lives.

I see this film as a companion to Bridesmaids in terms of looking at young-ish adult life and relationships with humor and sadness. The difference is that Bridesmaids is uproariously funny more often than not. The Five Year Engagement is far from being "uproarious" or anything like it. I chuckled at parts but much of it is bittersweet with more emphasis on the bitter part. Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, the same team behind the superior "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" don't quite find the same kind of magic here. Emily Blunt is always a breath of fresh air, and Alison Brie is immensely likable (especially in a scene where the two are forced to have an argument in Muppet voices). I like what Segel is going for, but he just doesn't quite achieve it here.

Although pitched as a comedy, this poses touchy questions about the sacrifices involved in an equal relationship.Emily Blunt plays a psychology grad student who's been admitted to a prestigious program at U. of M, but her adored fiance (Jason Segal) has just been offered his dream job as a chef in Chicago. Whose career will come first, and how much will each sacrifice for the other? There's some painful physical comedy at Segal's expense, and a delightful "opposites attract" relationship between Blunt's cool sister and Segal's boorish best friend, but fundamentally, this is a bittersweet examination of whether love truly does conquer all.

Very good movie. Funny and touching at the same time. Anyone who has had ups and downs in a relationship can relate to this movie. Light hearted, a good watch.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: The accidental shooting of a human being in the leg with a crossbow (although it's played for laughs and shown in the trailers and TV ads, so I'm not sure how frightening or intense one may deem this scene)

I don't think we can figure out all of our problems before we get married, but I promise you that I'll just love you every step of the way.
