A Seat at the Table is a beautiful album from Solange. The themes of rage, empowerment and despair are paired with funk, soul, and R&B. Solange brings up issues that Black women experience and the issues of emotional pain. Rise, Don’t Touch My Hair, Cranes in the Sky, and all the songs on this album have such strong messages and are calming to listen to. It took 3 years for this album to be made, and it is worth it. Solange’s voice is so unique and beautiful, she stands out from the other artists that we hear on the radio today. Listeners can get a 70’s vibe from this album, and if that’s your taste then this album is perfect for you.

Soul-bearing and soulful protest music with exquisite production. You can trace the musical lineage back to Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" and Curtis Mayfield's more political songs. In 20 years "A Seat at the Table" will continue to be be heard as a classic, a definitive statement.

One of the better albums from 2016. It's jazzy, easy listening, until you start paying attention to the lyrics which are quite heavy.
