Love, loss, grief, and renewal. This story is diverse and complex. I highly recommend to anyone who may enjoy reading about the struggles and honesty of love. Definitely a novel that consumed my thoughts once I started reading it.

This book is heartbreaking. When you decide to read it, make sure you have plenty of time (you can't read this one in pieces) and bring a box of tissues.

When Griffin's ex-boyfriend and first love Theo dies, his entire world is disrupted, and the only person he finds himself able to relate to is Theo's current boyfriend, Jackson. Alternating between flashbacks to Griffin and Theo's relationship (history) and the aftermath of Theo's death (now), this book about first and second loves, grief, and growing up packs an emotional punch from start to finish.

I read History is All You Left Me in the course of a day. When I wasn't reading it, I was constantly thinking about it. This is a beautifully written book about a boy who loses his first love at a young age and it alternates between present time and the past. Griffin and Theo's friendship-turned-relationship is organic, it's vibrant, and you see how they bring the best out of each other. Silvera has this knack for making you laugh on one page, and then gut punching you on the next. This is a great LGBT romance novel, and I highly recommend it.

I say this with the utmost regard, but Adam Silvera is an author who will rip your heart out, grind it up, and laugh at you while you bleed. History is a pull-no-punches exploration of grief, memory, and mental health. These characters were fully realized and surprised me at every turn. Even when I hated the things they did, I still found myself rooting for them and relating to them. Silvera does a nice job of balancing light and dark, and the ending is ultimately hopeful. If you love a feel bad book or just need a good cry, this may be your next favorite.

I don't know what will be left of me if love and grief can't bring you back to life. Maybe I need to be brought back to life, too.
