For the Hempstead sisters and their daughters, summers spent together at the house on Lake Waseka were magical, until an accidental drowning tore the family apart. Now one of them is determined to bring the family together at the neglected lake house, hoping that they can finally come to terms with what happened that summer.

Must admit this wasn't a favorite of mine - and I have read all of Robyn Carr's novels. I found the subject matter quite dark and depressing and a few too many characters to keep the plot easy to follow. Each character was so challenged it almost was too much to believe.

Life was always perfect for the Hempsteads until a tragedy ripped them apart. This story is about family, healing, forgiveness, and love. Another awesome book by Ms. Carr. She is definitely one of my "must read" authors.

This book just pulls you in. I've read nearly all of Robyn Carr's books and this is one of her best. I put on my pjs planning to read a couple hours before bed. Well......I ended up reading it until I finished the entire book, about 6 hours:) It is a more serious theme but still an enjoyable read!

A very touching story. I love the way she writes about family and women's lives. It is a very satisfying story.

Robyn never fails to draw you in to the storyline allowing you to feel the characters emotions. This is a wonderful story of life and death, of the complexities of family relationships and our insecurities as individuals. I would give it six stars if I could. She is one of a handful of authors that I always read and look forward to her next novel.

“The lake was so calm and quiet. The gentle lapping of the waves at the shore was soothing.
...Maybe Meg was right. Maybe summer at the lake would bring her comfort. It could heal her, Charley thought hopefully. Or give her peace in her last days?”
