The bones of this story are good. It is however too introspective for me and it jumps around with little notice.
Based on true events.

Up to page 129 on this one, and I'm not going to read any further. I find it slow moving, and haven't been able to develop an affinity with any of the characters. Disappointing.

I'm not usually a great fan of books set in the Middle East but since this book was highly recommended I decided to try it. I'm glad I did. Pierre Cormier is a successful Toronto lawyer who talks very little of his Lebanese origin and his past. However, when he is about to become a scapegoat for some distressing events in the mine he works for, he sets out for his boat in Cape Breton. He goes missing there and it is only after five years that he is declared dead. His son Cyril, a journalist, sets out to get some closure on this death and discovers some strange things about his father's past, in particular his meetings with the mysterious Ari at the Only Cafe. This past weaves itself into the story Cyril and his colleagues are working on about the influx of present day terrorism in the Toronto area and all in all makes for gripping reading.
