better title would be Skirmish for the planet of the apes.

It took 2 hours before the main battle happened. there's a small firefight at the start which was like the Ewoks fighting Imperial Stormtroopers, in other words, heavily armed soldiers getting massacred by bows & arrows.
most of the movie is apes using sign language and staring off into the distance with close ups of the apes faces to show off how good the CGI is.
Then there's a little girl character whose dad is killed by apes and she doesn't freak out or shed one tear, but when one of these very apes dies, she cries, what a great kid.

Starts out with lots of things getting blown up and apes and humans shot, so I had serious doubts about finishing the movie, but I am so glad I did! One of the best movies in several years. Hard to believe it came out of Hollywood. There was actual dialogue rather than just cursing (in fact I don't remember hearing a single curse word), no graphic sex (But plenty of graphic violence), and the non-star-studded cast was wonderful. I did not expect to cry during a war movie, but I did. The comic relief fell a little flat, though. My husbands only comment was "I didn't know Woody Harlson could act." I agree, for once he didn't ruin a movie for me. Very enjoyable movie that will be worth watching again when it hits TV.

While 'War' is a worthy conclusion to the Apes trilogy, it's probably the weakest of the trilogy. It begins slow, and the main plot is another "They killed his family, so now he must get revenge"- cliche. Still, it was amusing. And the cinematography is probably the best in the series. Without spoiling, the thing I liked most about 'War' was the background on what was going on with the surviving humans. It really cements how apes take over the planet, but not in the most obvious way. It would be interesting if they did another set of follow up movies, as the original series did. This trilogy left easter eggs and plot holes that set the possibilities for the underground mutant humans and the lost space mission from those movies. Sadly, this movie did not do as well at the box office so that may not happen.

The special effects were cool but I had no clue what was going on for most of the film and when it finally ended I was tired and felt like I had wasted a lot of time on nothing. This clearly was not a film meant for me.

Personally I did not like this movie. I felt they humanized Caesar way to much thru his speech & posture. I liked the first, the second was okay. Maybe my view would have been better at the theater. I will never know.
