Sorry, the reviews here just don’t get it. This is a great, very well-acted movie that touches and warms the heart. It’s about a country doctor who has devoted his life to helping his patients in the small village he lives in. For reasons I’ll omit, he is assigned an assistant, who happens to be a female. There is some obvious tension between them at first.

One thing I like about some French movies I’ve seen is that the plots are simple, but the results are profound because of the script, acting, etc.; also, there are many sub-plots that enrich the movie, and give a lot of actors an opportunity to be in a movie. All the minors actors in this movie do a great job.

Because it’s a French movie there’s no discussion about money, what any treatment costs, etc. The French have a great health care system. They value human beings. Who wants to worry about money when one’s health is involved?

It is slow paced at times but it's a drama not an action film. Interesting themes and dynamics between characters. Acting at times was a little weak. Overall good film.

The storyline was lacking and not engaging. It would start and then drop the idea and off to another. I find the lead actor always does the same character over and over again no matter the film.

I love watching Francois Cluzet, aka Dustin Hoffman’s doppelgänger. :) He carries every role with certain dose of poise and dignity. This movie has a plot line with a great potential, plausible story, likeable characters, good message, but didn’t deliver. It touches all what matters in life superficially.

This is the kind of film the French excel at: sensibility married with sociability. Cluzet is perfect as the gruff but 'wise' GP in the countryside just west of Paris, and his shopworn locum (Marianne Denicourt) adds just the right element of potential romance. There's even some Texas line-dancing at the community centre! An intelligent feel-good film.

A low-key drama but well done!

Rather slow.
