Hugo Marston has just been assigned Security Chief at the American Embassy in London, where the ambassador assigns him to keep tabs on an American movie couple in trouble because they've taken off from a movie set and killed a farmer in a hit and run. Before he can catch up with the pair, the wife is murdered--or commits suicide. Hugo is not impressed when he meets the husband, and a member of Parliament offers to help but seems to be in the way. Before long the husband gets away, the PM says he knows where he's gone, and the chase is on. Bodies pile up, the PM escapes to Paris, and Hugo's in trouble. The tabloids will make a real stink if they know what's really happening. A journalist "tries" to help and finally Hugo learns his role in the whole mess. This is a prequel to the Marston novels set in Paris, written after the first few, more confused than the ones I've read. It doesn't help that Hugo hates London and its weather and loves Paris.
