A good premise about the perils of migrant women, settlers in general, in towns like "Deadwood" during the 1880s, any frontier corner of the world. Unfortunately, it offered sub par cinematography (can you believe that's possible in the land of Lord of The Rings), acting by posing, unconvincing chain of events (each link was dubiously connected) and poorly "read" dialogues. No comment on its version of controversial Aotearoa History that there were indigenous people prior to the Maori arrival. Last, FCOL, the baby was used as if he was a silent prop throughout the film ... unbelievable!

Note: Very nice trailer with "Stan Walker - Find You" video in "Videos."

Alice Eve is quite good portraying a young mother in search of her newborn son and the culprit who killed her husband and stole the child. The New Zealand locale is a unique setting for a cowboy story, and though it's hard to believe a transplanted Englishwoman coming from nobility could rough it with a troupe of "fallen women", I got caught up in her plight and was rooting for her. Slower than the average cowboy caper, but still mildly enjoyable.

The wild, wild west was not just in the US! New Zealand had a gold rush, too. Very enjoyable but pretty standard western, it is fun to experience a western not featuring bad Indians and good white guys. The native in this film was one of the good guys, the hero was a woman, and the bad guys are standard issue villains. Costumes were lovely, sets were great, a little short of the views of landscapes. Good acting and script. Some men will complain about the feminist theme.

Find You lyrics P1 of 2:
Can't see you in the dark
I'm trying to find your light
I can't move through the dust
Getting lost in the night

The storm may come and the rain will fall
Fire and pain go hand in hand - what more
The sun will rise and I may fall
The earth will shake, but I will not be moved

Don't you worry, I'm running, I'm searching
I'm trying to find you, to hold you, I need you
Won't give up 'til I can't breathe no longer
I believe and I can't stop, won't stop

( 'Cause I'm gonna find you
I'll find you
I'm gonna find you
No, I can't give up
'Cause I'm gonna find you)

I can't feel you anymore
Can't hear through all the noise
I'm waiting for your call
I'm searching for your voice

Not falling (I'm coming)
Just moving (I'm running)
Can breathe now (I'm trying)

Old but good joke:
"Why wasn't Jesus born in New Zealand?" And the other chap says, "Because they couldn't find three wise men and a virgin."

They came from the North, and they killed the whole village.
-The English?
No. Maori. Maori with muskets.

What did you expect?
-I don't know. I expected everything to be perfect.

It's not really your world, is it, Charlotte? What was it you said? Oh, yeah.
That's right. You expect everything to be perfect. Well, that's the thing, isn't it? It's not. You need protecting in this world.
