I concur with the person below who said the language was offensive and it was also very well written.

Frequently profane, but also frequently profound, with some great humor worked into it.

I almost didn't make it through the first couple of episodes because I found the language a bit wearisome and needless, at first.

But, the strange thing is, despite the plethora of profanity in nearly every exchange from many of the characters, the writing and dialog wind up being incredibly captivating. Some episodes are really inspired.

So, even if you are put off by the language initially, I'd recommend keeping watching. I was very happy I did. It is really captivating and unique.

I think this is one of the better miniseries I have ever seen.

I'd put this on the same general level as The Wire, The Killing, Line of Duty, and the first few seasons of Game of Thrones and the first 3 seasons of Lost, all of which I regard as being pretty excellent. It is pretty massively entertaining.

I even watched the "extra" stuff about the real Deadwood, the writing and profanity, etc. , which is something I almost never do.

Yes the language is offensive... but also terrifically written. If you aren't offended easily this show is excellent.

Bad language is way out of this world; half the dialogue are swear words..the bad ones. Nevertheless...character development is excellent and acting is excellent. Story line is very interesting. Waiting to watch Series 2.

Would have like it more if the profanity was less rampant. Nonetheless, something to watch waiting for the latest season (five) of Justified that Timothy Olyphant is the star attraction.

my brother told me about this show years ago .I never watched it when it was first aired on HBO saw a few shows in reruns on HBO and thought of watching them all. this was a very good show .the first season mostly is about getting to know the cast and storyline about the town of Deadwood.the 2nd and 3rd seasons are the best ones ,show should of lasted a few more seasons.not for children with all the foul language .a great show not many of them the last 10 or 15 years of tv, this show is a gem i reccomend it highly!

I was really looking forward to seeing this series and I have a mixed reaction to it. They did a great job creating the atmosphere of a mining camp full of outlaws and reprobates. I'm especially puzzled after watching the interviews of the bonus features in which everyone was talking about the intelligent writing; for me, the vulgarity of the language made it oppressive to watch. Episode 12 was definitely the best of the season, humanizing Al and with some touches of humor, but it's not enough to make me watch more.

Utterly amazing!!! I was hooked by the second episode and can't wait to watch the second and third seasons. The cast is spectacular and the bonus DVD only made the series all the more brilliant.

May 16, 2013...I have this on hold, not available until June 1st, and then I think I am still 2nd in line.....Was recommended by an educator. He didn't like it at first, but then got hooked. I'll give it a good try. (against my better judgement!).....July 7, just watched the 6th espisode. Can't say that I find anything thrilling about it. Maybe it's just not my thing. Will watch a few more episodes before I give up on it........July 24, after episode 11, I was thinking, "this is bad, do I really want to keep watching this." But then I watched episode 12, and the scenes with the Doc and Jewel kind of won me over. Even Al became a little more bearable, (maybe, just maybe, he has some redeeming qualities?) I must say, as I am watching "The Sopranos" at the same time, this show kind of makes "the Sopranos" almost like a pussycat. Ton's of swearing, lot's of boobs, bums, and porny like scenes, but then it is HBO, so what do I expect? I'll keep giving it a go! (I must say, the acting is one of the things that keeps me watching...superb!).....Aug 15, I take it back, just finished watching the second season of The Sopranos. These two series tie for blood, boobs, and blow jobs (heads of all kinds being blown!) (I am shocked and disturbingly fascinated.)
