If I could only tell people one thing about this book, it would be don't go into it expecting a Rick Riordan book, but go into it expecting a Rick Riordan book. Aru's world would totally fit into the Rick Riordan demigods universe with its colourful godly (and inanimate object) characters and, on purpose or not, there are plenty of nods to Percy Jackson, Grover Underwood, and the rest of the gang. The jokes are all Roshani Chokshi's though. None of them made me laugh out loud (as Rick Riordan's books have done many, many times), but they didn't feel forced and they usually lightened the tone of the book right where it was needed. The one real problem I had with this book was the ending. The fight with the big bad happened and then it just kept going. I kept expecting it to end, but no, there was more. It was a wrap up that was just too long. The last chapter especially could have been the first chapter of the next book. All in all though, this was a fun read and I'll definitely be picking up the next one.
