One of our favorite J Fiction books!! Entertaining, very witty, and educational.

Master Jack, age 12, and his butler Praiseworthy head to California to cash in on the gold rush. Aloof to danger, Jack is determined to help his Aunt Arabella recover from hard times threatening the family estate. He sneaks away as a stow away on a ship bound for California, with a butler bound to protect him while maintaining his dignity and his proper black umbrella. Praiseworthy is a witty gem, and it's certainly fun to read about the two navigating the rough world of young California. "The butler had never let on that he was so handy with his fists. The truth of the matter was that Praiseworthy had been as surprised as the others to see the brute go flying. And then he remembered the heavy gold dust packed in the fingertips of the glove."

It would much more useful if all books had ebook versions.
