As an avid Vietnamese War protester and also a supporter of LBJ's Great Society, i have mixed feelings about the Johnsons and their time in the White House. Focusing on stopping the war, I knew only a little about Lady Bird at the time, mostly her Make America Beautiful program that filled highway byways with native flowers and inspired cities to clean up and plant.

I was disappointed with this book. I felt there was a tone of dislike for Mrs. Johnson by the author, who says in the intro she was suddenly barred from further interviews with Lady Bird. I read three chapters, but could not get past the author's disparaging voice.

Now looking for a new bio about Lady Bird to read--luckily there are many.
