Rate this:
The alternate theatre movement, which flourished in Canada in the1970s, was one of the most exciting phenomena ever to appear on theCanadian cultural scene. Influenced by radical theatre groups in theUnited States and in Europe, the Canadian movement originated in thelate 1960's, partly as a result of the growing nationalism of thatperiod and partly as a result of the dissatisfaction of youngplaywrights and authors with the direction of the theatreestablishment. In this book, Usmiani examines the evolution of thealternative theatre movement in this country. She outlines thehistorical and cultural background, thus placing the Canadian movementin an international context.
