This book was the first of Diana Wynne Jones' Chrestomanci series that I read and it is one of my favorites out of all of her books. A great introduction to either the Chrestomanci series or to Wynne Jones' books in general.

Christopher can't see that he has much magical ability; he just does errands for his uncle - that can't be bad, or can it? Diana Wynne Jones is my favourite author. The people you meet in her books will be your friends forever.

The entire Chrestomanci series is fantastic, especially The Magicians of Caprona and Charmed Life.

This is a sort of prequel to Charmed Lives and it has a magical adventure on its own. I've reread this book several times- and it was interesting to read and to reread.

If you enjoyed this volume, there's more in this series that you'd also probably enjoy. :D
