Sir John Fielding is not surprised that Americans are criminals and rebellious. They were sent to the colonies as punishment for crimes. However, he is surprised that they are calling themselves Americans and don't care to be regarded as English. In this addition to the series, Jeremy and Clarissa are becoming adults, Black Jack Bilbo and Jimmie Bunkins fade out and serious amounts of murder are committed as the result of the machinations of Benjamin Franklin.
